The ninth and final season of the American television comedy series How I Met Your Mother was announced on December 21, 2012. On January 30, 2013, it was announced that Season 9 will be its final season. Season 9 will take place over the course of one weekend, as each of Ted's friends prepares for and experiences Barney and Robin's wedding, and get to meet The Mother respectively, before Ted himself does. The ninth season will begin on September 23, 2013, with an hour-long premiere episode.
